Who's back at work today then?
It's not right being at work when people back in England have the day off.
Surely ex-pats should get the day off - whatever country they happen to currently live in.

I believe that some took off Friday and some today.
Here in Canada the banks and stock market are closed and mail is not delivered or picked up. Most companies were closed down from Dec 24 until Jan 4.
New Years day was not always a day off for people in England. I started work in 1944 and we didnt get it off but the Scots did ( they didnt get Boxing day).

DH off today since he wasn't off Friday (they had a customer who was going to be open Friday, so they had to be open). I'm off today, but start in out on the street Tuesday.

Our company paid holiday for New Year was Friday. We are working today (Monday). It was very hard to get up early today!

I'm back. We had Friday off but it could have been either really. I'd rather have both, we don't get anywhere near enough days off out here
Next day off - May 30th, unless I use one of my 3 remaining vacation days

Actually the rule of thumb is if the holiday is on a Saturday you have Friday off and if it is on a Sunday then you are off on Monday.
Our next holiday is President's Day and then Martin Luther King Day and then Memorial Day.
I carried over 10-1/2 vacation days from 2010 and 5 sick/personal days (for which I get paid)
