Thought this would be an interesting poll... Who is your preferred carrier of choice when you make your trip over the pond... Personally, I always try for British Airways although I don't always get to use them...

I always go for the cheapest that flies non stop. Which for me is US Airways.

When in the UK we used Virgin to Orlando cheapest and quickest and actually very good.
Previously used Delta into Atl and JFK but use US Airways now, as its the best for our location.Found them to be good.on time, reasonable rates etc

Buying seats for 4. I use whoever is the cheapest. Usually ends up being United.

Well, you seem to have omitted American Airlines. I have over 1.6M miles flown with AA alone.

British Airways. My friend works for them at Newark and she's been very good to our family and we have often been given upgrades, for example my student daughter (whom she's never met) was returning to LHR recently and my friend had annotated her details for when she checked in (my friend was on a different shift). My daughter was given an invitation to go in the Exec Club lounge and when she got there was given an upgrade to World Traveller +. My husband has had a number of upgrades, the best was when he was going on a personal trip to run in the London Marathon from World Traveller aka Economy class (on airmiles) on a very full and probably oversold flight up to First class! :thumbsup: However, at the time he had a Gold Exec Club card and this makes a huge difference for upgrades, but he hasn't travelled much with BA recently and now has Silver status instead.

I'm flying to London tomorrow morning as our daughter is graduating from uni later in the week..:)

I prefer daytime flights to the 'redeye' ones as you arrive in the UK in the evening and ready to go to bed for a good night's sleep. I booked my ticket a couple of months ago....the taxes cost about as much as the flight did! My husband has had to change his travel plans - I was originally going to meet him in London where he would be flying in from Hong Kong, but he went there last week instead.

Now we're on the same flight but he's in Club class and I'm in cattle class....:ohmy: (Bless him, he's already offered to swap seats with me...:)

My BA friend's husband is also on the same flight and we will meet him in the airline lounge before the flight.

Tip: I know it's taking a risk if a flight may be oversold, but my friend at BA says that if people check in online they can't get upgraded (the system won't let them) and she and her colleagues can only upgrade people checking in at the desk. :cool:

British Airways, simply because they are the only airline which fly from BWI - which is a $15 cab ride from our house, and winds up being the cheapest factoring in parking etc.

Have flown Virgin from Dulles before, and slightly prefer them to BA, but not enough to pay a whole lot more.

Icelandair used to fly from BWI, and were cheaper than BA, but you had a layover in Reykjavik. Flew them once, and they were fine.

ours is the same.. only at the gate. Although something i notice is that coach is more often than not the one that is oversold when business is empty. And it does depend on what scale ur ticket was purchased.

As long as i get from a to b in one piece. There are no whistles and bells anymore on most airlines. the flights are still packed.

Cheapest for me (at least to the UK) is usually Continental. Flying BA would involve going out of my way and paying lots more in 'taxes and fees'.

Prefare NW as they fly to Norwich via Schipol, failing that not bothered as long as I get there in 1 piece :D

Flying home September with British Midland to LHR as they had a special on.

Another one here in the United camp. Of course, that's when the wife was still employed with them and we flew in either Business or First. Ah, memories... :(

Now it would be whoever was cheapest out of ORD.

I would prefer BA or Virgin for quality but simply for convenience we tend to fly Continental to the UK because they have direct flights Newark - Glasgow and all my close family (parents, sister & family) have moved up to Scotland in recent years. Continental are ok, although having to pay for my customary G&T grates a little. But then it's been a while since I flew with anyone else back to Britain, so do they all charge for drinks now?

We usually try and fly BA, but next time we fly in September it is going to be United, only because it is a little bit cheaper from Denver to LHR and we don't want the hassle of having to change planes somewhere.

I think its great to fly with BA Virgin etc... the lets say little bit more luxurious airlines, but at the end of the day they all have the same safety checks before they leave etc....and for the sake of a few hours if I am going to get a flight a few hundred bucks cheaper, for lets say flying with the Airborne curry house Air India or such like, then heck yes I would fly with those carriers I have no preferance what name it has on the outside of the plane :)
