Re: Where are you moving back to?
Seems like lots of people are maybe heading to the south. I love the laid back vibe of the south west especially. I find it interesting that for myself I want to go back to where I grew up even though my family are all in London. I think Dorset is just imprinted on my brain.

I had all my holidays as a child there though, I really want to give it a shot (to live) after tantalizing ourselves with pictures on the internet
My Mum took herself off to Cornwall 3 years ago, after 37 years in London!

That is interesting...I am a Londoner, but my Dad moved back home to Dorset in '83.

My Dad lives in London for work but both my parents head down to Dorset for breaks often. In fact we're staying in a cottage together in Sutton Poyntz this fall...my 7 year old sons first time in Dorset, can't wait!

Initially we'll be with friends in Herefordshire whilst we wait for the container to arrive.
Then we will move into our house near Gloucester which is currently tenanted.
We'll sell this and move somewhere a reasonable distance from where my daughter will be going to uni: could be Bristol, Exeter, Gloucester or Falmouth currently, but somewhere with a sea view (number one wish of my OH).
I may be working in darkest Africa or some other "interesting" location, so it will be nice to come home to a seaside location!

Huh! That is interesting...I am torn between London and Dorset frankly. But I can't really afford to live in London and I do think Dorset offers a lot for families. Recently I stayed I'm Battersea near the park and loved it! So green, safe and family orientated...but super pricy, sigh.

My Dad then move to Gillingham North DORSET ...and as it was my Dads home it was ours too ( iyswim) my parents has divorced by then.
We have 3 children ,we left S.London when we just had the 2 boys (since then have had a little girl too) I was happy for us ,but not for the school situation at Secondary level...
That is how we found ourselves in the American Mid-West ...very long story
Even though I spent all my 34 years (at that point) in South London ,its not for me anymore (well at least while the children are small)
Actually ,thinking about it ,I can't see myself back in London.
We are totally priced out ,plus I *have* to have peace and quiet these days.
A bit of an epic ,just wanted to give a few more details.

We have 3 also; 2 boys and one spoiled rotten girl.
So funny as I grew up just outside of Weymouth...my science teacher was called Mrs Gillingham...all those lovely memories of 'period talks' are flooding back lol!
Anyway it's a small world, how was Indianna? Appologise if I'm mistaken of course.

It's just a lovely part of the world, as you say it is pretty laid back and friendly.

Re: Where are you moving back to?
We will be moving to the Gloucester area later this year/early next year as my partner has a job offer in the area. We are looking at areas around Cheltenham, not too rural though, as we will have two small kids (not yet school age). I absolutely adore the Cotswolds so looking forward to being near there, & also near Wales as partner has family in Cardiff & Abergavenny.

For me, it will probably be Lancashire. Possibly around Bolton, for access to jobs in Manchester and hills north of Manchester. Kendal or other towns in the Lake District would be fun, but for computer jobs it may have to be Manchester.
Any comments on Bolton, good or bad, would be helpful!

Re: Where are you moving back to?
Our family and friends are spread between Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire - we think we'll head to the southern Lake District in 18 months when we return.
From there, it will be easy to visit everyone we care about - and we want to live somewhere beautiful. I'm looking forward to the countryside walks (in my rain coat!)
