we didnt hate the UK - some things yes we hated - but as a country we didnt hate it ...

for those who give their reasons as "hating the UK" I think expat life is much harder as pretty much every country has many of the same problems - just in a different setting. Not so much rose tinted specs for the new country - more like an overblown exaggeration of the failings of the UK.

Its a case of knowing the UK has many good points but that another country may give you more happiness and a better lifestyle - which is what pretty much every member of BE wants.

Very nice thread. When I saw the subject I thought it was going to be a Britain-bashing thread and I would have to stick up for the place. Since I'm unemployed at the moment (I'm supposed to be starting my job - my second since returning - this week but don't have a confirmed date yet) I've been visiting all the beauty spots in Surrey. The countryside here is beautiful and so accessible with so many footpaths and bridleways.

Thanks! The first one wasn't right for me. They're both in the same field but the first one was client-facing helpdesk work whereas this one is internal support. The first one involved lots of travel (being away from my family for a week) whereas this one doesn't. I just jumped at the first one because it was the first job I was offered but I had my reservations about it from the start.
