What is Nottingham like?

:D
I was watching a Uk tv programme about real estate called "Location Location" which featured Nottingham as quite a cheap fun place to live. A guy on his own was looking to buy a 3or 2 bedroom townhouse thing for 90 thousand quid? My god is that true, and he had only 12 thousand quid for a deposit!!!! Even if you double it with the exchange rate in Nz where I am at the moment, 90 thousand quid would not even get you a deposit on a similar type house in Auckland - it would cost about 1 million kiwi dollars (which is 500 thousand quid )in an average area.
Is Nottingham a dive? Is it quite a cool place for young people in 20s and 30s as it seemed to suggest on that programme? Is that price for real?

cheers

Notts is Cool if a bit dodgy... Never had any trouble there myself. Its better you know which areas to avoid though eg The Meadows, Highson Green etc

Lots of sporting events to enjoy...

Definitely good for sport, locally, and through being so accessible to so many other cities. I quite like it, and my student nephew seems to spend a fair bit of time there, he reckons its Cool too

Pick the right local team though, Forest rule

Nottingham can be a pretty lively place for 20 and 30 somethings.

Plenty of cheap but somewhat dodgy areas with old terrace houses plentiful. Lot's of students and stag/hen groups on a weekend and a surfeit of sports with 2 football and 1 cricket ground in close proximity. Both football teams ar epretty crap though

Big 4/5 bed victorian places were going for 300k ish in a decent area when we left.

Has a rep for having a high ration of women to men ;) Can't be all bad as I met the boss there on my mates stag do

:D Plenty of pregnant 16yo's smoking at the bar in the nightclub we got into free as part of the package  We beat a hasty retreat to a more up market venue

Playing golf round the uni campus bars was fun though when my mate was there

None in usa either? There is an official man drought in nz that is written about in the newspaper even. All the single ones leave at about 25 and only come back with a wife and kids or stay overseas.

Dis you check on the date of the programme, some of these being shown date from pre 2008 and are just repeat fillers for the schedule, so the costs etc may be well outdated.
