What if you arrived with no money?
 

I will start by saying I'm not basing my plans around this scenario... but I noticed another poster raised questions about how to get established back in the UK on minimal funds and it got me wondering...

What would happen if someone turned up back home in the UK, after living overseas for a very long time, with absolutely no means of support?

Assuming they couldn't or wouldn't be sent back... I'm guessing they would just end up homeless like anyone else with nothing.

I know it's a bit random... but I wonder if anyone knows of any help that might be offered to an expat fresh off the plane with nothing but a suitcase.

Depends. Could you pass the Habitual Residency Test ? Do you have an NI record ? Would you be "available for work" in the meaning of the Regulations ? Do you have resources (including property and other assets overseas) ?.If "unavailbale for work" would you be certified as sick by your GP ?

Not as simple as you might think.
