It really is very boring here too, why is it so boring in Australia for some people?I have no idea but I certainly feel it and I hear alot of people saying it.

There is no character. no buzz . I lived in the East Midlands and had the choice of Nottingham, Derby, Loughbourgh, longeaton ,Chesterfield even though that was a bit futher out but there was always something different and the trasport where I lived was 22 hours aday at the peak days of the weekend. So you could always get to something going on.The fares were on average £3.80 return. Here the bus service is a joke. They call this place a city but noway. The buses stop at 12noon on Saturaday even though the shops are open until 4pm there are no buses at all after 5pm and none at the weekend.I use taxi's, alot loved an english bus ride always have a chat to some one even if you have never met before.I met one of my really good friends that way. No one does that here maybe it's the accent eh?

Same here - we live in a Melbourne suburb and the bus service is absolutely rubbish - we end up running our daughter everywhere because she can't afford taxis. The taxis here wont tell you when they will pick you up so you just end up sitting waiting, and waiting, and waiting or they could be there in two minutes

I feel that living here is just like living in a retirement home - if you go into the city (which we try to do once a month) then there is plenty to do but the suburbs near us are just so boring Go outside after 7pm and you don't see a soul.

If we were into tennis, cycling or jogging then I suppose we'd be ok but we're not and are in desperate need of a good pub to socialise in

Strange isn't it.
About six years ago I stayed at a friends house in a Melbourne suburb and I walked to the shops nearly everyday. It was like a ghost town, not a soul around. It was really odd, it felt very strange, what really stuck in my mind was how weird it was. Were was everybody? There were plenty of houses around. Maybe I should have taken it as a sign not to move to Australia.

I'm so sorry you're not happy either. It's so difficult when you've got kids that aren't settling. Tell me to mind my own business, but is there any reason why you have to stay? Is it not feasible to move back?

My partner is a plumber / gas fitter and has been quite lucky with work here but we are heading home anyway next year for a whole heap of reasons that I won't bore you with.....You mentioned that you had a job to go back to so thought you'd be a good person to ask - that must take a whole heap of stress off!

Good luck with the move

Wel arrived and having a ball, shades need to be worn, driving down the freeway with bright sun blue skies and a crisp breeze, beautiful countryside. the feelgood factor helped by the xmas bustle and just being around people.

I have had 3 job offers but my old supervisor heard i was coming back and he has moved to a new company. I start work next mon week and cannot wait. i feel a whole weight is lifted off me.

All plumbers worried bout work back here dont worry absolute shedloads of work and decent wages too. agencies offering 12500 to service booked appt on gas appliances. Obviously its early days but already i look at things that wound me up here in a different way, i dont read the sun etc anymore and live in complete ignorance as i did in perth.

Any people looking for gas licence in oz contact tafe etc.

anybody need to get their corgi here or acs. pay the money you will earn it back in no time.

All the stress has gone from me already. shopping cheaper, variety better. I am simply home.

Well the main 2 reasons are he would like to finish school, he repeated a year this year which he feels was a waste of time, but would like to finish what he's started. We also very stupidly bought a house. we could have moved by the end of next year but we are trying to make it for the year after. My eldest son is here with an English fiancee and to be honest she isn't keen on the place but willing to try somewhere else. the middle son is with an Australian girl and wants to stay. He is going back to the UK for the 2nd time in 2 years in June so it makes me wonder. My family will be separated but they are big boys now and we all have to live our own lives. The son still at school wants to go to uni to do journalism but would love to go back to UK to do it. So I will have to muster on for another year for his sake and get him finished and then make some decisions.
No problems with you asking it's good to get it out. thanks Jenny

Lucky lucky.... person!

Good on you for reporting back all is well and looking up for you. Should put many an undecided mind at ease.

We're coming back too - won't allow this indecision to fester any longer. It just isn't healthy and life is way too short. Life cannot be any worse than living in a state of limbo. Onward and upward!

Well done.

Aw sorry you are feeling like crap - it's strange how it sort of comes around in cycles - some days you feel you can cope with it all, other days you just want to scream your head off! I think that this time of year is going to be the worst, remembering all the activity of Christmas in the UK.

I honestly can't believe just how boring it is here - in the Uk if we walked out dogs in the evening, we'd see others walking their dogs, people gardening or jogging or chatting to neighbours, walking to the corner shop or pub etc. Here we see no-one. Not a soul. Went to Coles last night at around 8:30 and the streets were just dead. Spooky. I said to hubby I'd even be grateful to see a hoody gang just to relieve the monotony :scared:
