This website is the best!

I have never felt so homesick as in the last few days and have questioned myself over and over if I am gonna do the right thing dragging my family back because I want to go home. After reading lots and lots of threads I feel like a big weight has been lifted and want to return more than ever. Nothing in life is ever easy and straight forward but I am glad I moved away to realise just what we really did have and now can't wait to return. Its great to hear that there is so many of you that that feel the same. Goodluck to everyone going home.

Good luck with the move back, its a shame so many of us have to move to the other side of the world, before we realise what we had !! but at least you come back with a new appreciation of the UK, and avoid all those ' new life down under ' progammes like the plague!!!

Hi Everyone,
I agree this web site is a breath of fresh air. I have been in Oz since June and have been struggling with things since the beginning really. I thought I must be mad or really miserable as I thought everyone loved oz and it was only me who didn't!! Then my OH found this web site and It was an amazing feeling knowing that I wasn't the only one.

Well for what is worth... we moved out here in 1998 and things went tits up from the start! Couldn't secure decent employment, Wife depressed and glazed looking all the time (She was always dreaming of her life, mum and dad 12000 miles away back home in the UK) House here was infested with redbacks, snakes in the garden the list goes on and on! 6 months and we went back in the UK. Faced the inevitable oh... I thought you would of at least done 2 years. (Bit difficult with no money coming in. How long would you survive on savings if I made you redundent immediatly with no further prospects and all the other shit going on). Almost financially ruined save for a reasonable deposit we (the wife) wisely would not let me touch for a house here in the UK. Well.....forward the clock 10 years! We are now back down under in Queensland. Life is absolutely fantastic, really, really good job, our own designed hose built on 1/4 acre. Kiddies in private school and wifey really really happy. The moral is.. for us.. It was just not meant to be at that time in our life! Now it is and everythings fantastic..... Never lose sight of your dreams... PS I still love the UK, I'm an englishman living in Australia and loving it. I might be here for a good time, not necessarily a long time... But all I know is I have property and a lifestyle I could never own in the UK. Back home I felt I exisited... Here we do as we please, I no longer use credit cards to get me through the month or holiday periods! Remember... You can always come back.

HI
Yes I am going to go back in June I think!! i'm 90% sure that this is the right thing. We are in Brisbane and although I appreciate how pretty it is and there are fabulous beaches near by, at this point in my life it's just not for me. I miss everything about the Uk and my life there.
I was quite surprised how I felt when we arrived as we lived in Malaysia for 11 years and returned to the UK in 2004. I had pangs of homesickness in Malaysia but never anything like this.

I know what you mean about glazed eyes, i feel thats me, I often joke that I left my brain in Singapore!! Glad that you have tried again and it's working brilliant. I'm in Queensland and it is beautiful.

Glad it worked for you, I had a great life in Perth with a boat and even a microlight, but something was missing for me and it become apparent to me when I went home for a holiday, it was the people, my friends family and people I work with, it was the nights in the pubs with family and friends, the blokes and crack at the rugby club, I had plenty of friends in Oz but they were not mates.
Anyone understand.

Jackie, me too!!! I found this site by accident. I was pining away for home (Scotland) and found BE after looking around for info to ship my pets back home and trying to sort out the logistics of moving back home. BE is very, very addictive. Glad I found it, or I might have ended up in the little yellow bus!!!

It's great, I have just come on this morning as my Dad had just text me to say he has landed back home fine and his flight was excellent (he flys with Emirates)...so I just really fed up knowing he was back home and that my brother met him at the airport and his life goes on!!!!! so here I am again back on this wonderful site...just to "let it all out" so to speak!!!! Its great to know you are facing a day in somewhere you don't want to be and you are now "not alone"....it does help my husband and two sons are wanting to go home just as much as me but for years we thought we were the only people who felt like this as everyone we knew/know either don't mind it here or just put up with it!!!!
Are you going back home? we are planning on no later than June 08, we have to sell our home before we go......and before we can book dates etc...but at least it's this year....we have just been told our sons will fit into their school/college the want to attend...one son will start A level's our youngest will start his GCSE's...which is fantastic news for us!!!!
Anyway back to the grindstone....I have a pile of ironing to get through after my dads visit...I did not want to waste a second of my time with hime hence the pile!!!...thats my excuse!!!

Yes, my plan right now is to be back in Scotland by this summer. Maybe we will bump into each other at the airport in June. It's great to finally know that it won't be long. You must feel wonderful that you are planning on going back at last. Roll on summer:)

Ironing can always wait, relatives can't. Glad that you spent so much valuable time with your father when he visited. I'm sure he couldn't have cared less about the ironing either, right:thumbup:

No he certainly could not and just text me again to say he had a wonderful holiday and that although he loves Aus he can understand why we want to return home which is just lovely, he has been here 11 times in 9 years but can see how we have "done all we can" to make a "good go" of it here..but it's just not home.

Ah thats lovely, My inlaws came out last year, didn't say an awful lot about the place when here. Then whe I mentioned I was feeling homesick etc and wanted to come home, they told me it was the land of opportunity and why would I want to come home. As someone else mentioned on this site, people who live there say they hate it but have never had the balls to leave and try something new, so everywhere else is amazing. They don't know any different so how can they pass judgment. I am pleased for you that your father understands even though he loves Oz...as you say its just not home! Goodluck to you.

I always remember that wherever we have been on holiday (outside of Aus) I have always said "oh I would live to live here"...from Gibraltar...Spain...Greece etc...even Dubai last year but when you live and work in these places it is sooooooooooooo different.....my family don't have to live here....they do not know what it's like to have all your faimly 1000's of miles away...when sometimes all you want to do it call in for a cup of tea..etc...loads of other things we took for granted......it may be the land of oppurtunity to some but I think if you want to make it you can do it anywhere....all our family back home are doing VERY well....through hard work etc.....

Well quite.....if you are prepared to work for it!!! We owned our own home, had private medical insurance through hubbys work, 2 cars etc etc. Everything the same as here I guess, but we can't afford to buy here, its so expensive, so why put a noose around our necks. I am pleased we haven't under the circumstances. NO ONE can possibly know what we are going through until they have done it themselves, its very hard emotionally!
