We want to move back to the UK
Me and my family want to return to the UK. We are all British citizens and have valid UK passports. I am a widow 51 my mum is 73 my daughter is 16 son 24. My sons wife is South African and their son is 19 months old and born here in SA. We have to sell our house here first. Is there a guide available regarding the process of moving to the UK? I need to find a place to live and employment. Please can you advise me how to get started? Thank you

Re: We want to move back to the UK
Hi, welcome to BE. I've moved your thread to our Moving Back to the UK forum, where you'll get some great advice.
As British citizens, there is nothing any of you need to do other than rock up in the UK! You may need to do things like get National Insurance numbers for anybody that doesn't have one, etc, but nothing complicated at all. For your son's wife (and possibly his children, depending on if they are British citizens or not), they'll need visas. I would suggest you start a new thread in the our family visas/citizenship sub forum to see how they can go about getting that sorted. HTH, good luck. |
Re: We want to move back to the UK
Those with British passports can just fly into the UK and start their new lives. Where was your son born? In SA or UK?. This is important to know as it will influence whether he can pass on his British ancestry to his son.
Your son's wife and son will, unless she/he have British Ancestry or some European Ancestry which will afford them a Brit passport. need to be sponsored by your son for a settlement visa. There are financial, relationship and accommodation requirements to obtain this visa. Basically, if your son is currently earning 18,600 GBP per annum AND has a job to go to in the UK starting within 3 months of return then they can apply for visa from SA and fly out together. If he has a current job earning 18, 600 GBP per annum and does not have a job in the UK to go to, he enters the UK, gets a job earning 18,600 GBP and applies as soon as he has that job. If your son does not earn 18,600 GBP now then the options are: - he enters the UK, gets a job, holds it for 6 months and then applies for the visa. Wife remains in SA as visa must be applied for from SA. - he fulfills the financial requirements by savings, investments, pension holdings etc. Read the following document carefully to see how he can qualify: https://assets.publishing.service.go...ment_Final.pdf The following website explains how to apply for the settlement visa: https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa The application will take about three months to process. |

Some info here.https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/returning-to-the-uk-after-living-abroad-heading/ https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/coming-from-abroad-and-claiming-benefits-the-habitual-residence-test/british-and-irish-citizens-claiming-benefits/ If you need employment and accommodation for you and your mother who is 73 it may be an option for your son ( 24) to go to the UK first to establish himself and find accommodation for you in the future. He could stay in a flat or house share saving money whilst he finds his feet. Also if he needs to sponsor his wife for a Spouse visa he will need to earn 18,600 GBP pa ( details as sandiego girl wrote) the child can come on a ILE indefinite leave to enter visa applied for at the same time. (Unless child is British). The other option is savings of 62,500 GBP for a spouse visa and some additional amount if his child is not British ( or a gift from you via the house sale but it would need to be held in an account for 6 months before application of his wife's visa) property rental and purchase sites www.rightmove.co.uk www.primelocation.co.uk also look for 'serviced apartments' in right move as you can rent for shorter periods. most rentals in uk are 6 month or 1 year plus. South Africans in UK sites https://www.facebook.com/RSAUK/ https://whatudidntknow.co.uk/2017/05...ving-to-the-uk http://www.thesouthafrican.com/1st-c...ns-in-the-uk-2 job sites https://www.monster.co.uk www.reed.co.uk Accommodation sharing short term etc www.spareroom.co.uk don't part with money upfront via western union .. etc, unless booking a serviced apartment via credit card. |
