wanting to return after 59 years.
Is there still a. program where British citizens could return to spend the last few years of their lives back in their home land? I have been gone for 59yrs.though have visited and supported family for many of those years
.The only British passport I have is the original one I had in 1957 when I emigrated to Canada. I am almost 83 yrs. old and in good health. I have sufficient funds to take care of myself
What must I do to be able to return to UK and make this happen? I would appreciate any advice.

As a British citizen you just get on a plane and fly 'home'.
There is no 'program' to undertake.
Since your passport has expired you either get a new one before you leave or enter the UK with old passport (birth certificate would also help) and you will be told to renew it in the UK

If your last British passport expired some 50 years ago I would strongly recommend renewing it before you return. You will need to provide your full birth certificate and a copy of your Canadian passport.

Other than that nothing else is required for you to return. You'll be eligible for free NHS care from the moment you land. There'll be other administrative tasks to reestablish yourself in the UK once you arrive but a valid British passport is all you'll need to board the flight home.

The OP may also wants to consider opening an UK bank account in Canada before returning to the UK. HSBC offers this kind of service. Please see link below -

I imagine that you & Largo may have lived within a mile or two of each other?
Byker primary school she mentioned somewhere
OP, good luck with doing whatever it is & likely your visit over will make it more clear for you.
Novo, what about you providing some assitance to Largo when she is over?

Well hello Madame Largo (H)! Take BiP's advice and renew your old UK passport before even visiting...it will just make everything simpler. If you follow the gov.uk link posted above you'll see it will only take around six weeks and costs only about £110.

Posting recently on another thread about the NE properties, has me wondering if it is a well kept secret that the NE & its coastline could be the best place to be in the UK?
