Wanting To Move Back, Not Sure

My husband has worked in Florida for 4 yrs and we finally came here to live with him about 9 months ago.

We just havent settled, my 19 yr old cries all the time and the economy is bad. We havent had our work visas yet and my 17 yrs olds college is very expensive.

We are thinking of moving back to the UK, near York. It's a very confusing and emotional time for us all.

Any help?

So sorry you guys are all having such a hard time.
College here is expensive especially seeing you get to pay out of state fees, seeing you haven't been there a year.
Do what you need to do.
If you and the teens want to go home what does your Dh say about it?

I just interviewed for a job today here in California. Their vacation package is 7 days paid per year

Note: this is not a typo. The number is 7, not 17 or 27....just 7

I've been in the US 27 years on October 1. I still can't get used to the pathetic vacation time. I only get 9 days after being at company for 3 years. I am hoping to get job in schools so I can get all school holidays off. I want to go to UK for 5 weeks in Spring. To do this I will need to quit current job and go before start another job but England is still important to me so do what I have to..

The company gave 5 days after one full year of employment, if there were no excessive absences for illness, emergencies, etc. Otherwise, no vacation. This was the norm unless the position was management. After 5 years, vac time would be 10 days, same stipulations.

Hope you get the school job you want!

Sorry you haven't settled in to the routine of a new place. Do you have only the 19 year old and the 17 year old? College is expensive almost all over the US, what about starting with a two year college then move up to finish the degree at the 4 year college. That's the way lots of students go. Exhaust every avenue when applying for financial aid, grants, work study, etc. College financial aid dept should be able to load you down with this info.

Is the economy better back where you want to go in the UK?

Question is does your husband also want to move back?

I can understand how you feel to some extent. I have been in FL for 10 years off and on. I will certainly not be staying much longer for many reasons (read my other posts if you're curious!)

Florida is great if you're retired or have bags of leisure time, for the average working family it's hard to make ends meet. Also, it's a very transient population, everyone is from somewhere else. From what I have experienced many people run away from problems in other states and run down to FL because it seems like it will be nicer. They may be running away from the law (yes seriously) or family problems/child support issues. I've seen it all before.

Could your daughter transfer any credits over to the UK if you did relocate?

My daughter cant transfer credits no but we have finally decided to go back, after Jan 1st is easier to get the dogs over. Our two dogs have passports but our US dog needs travel documentation. He's a rescue from a puppy mill so would never leave him in Quarantine.

Husbands going back next week to rent a home, set it up and everything, get our daughter into local college etc.

Sounds like a plan, good luck with the move :fingerscrossed:

I'll wish you all the best with your move in the New Year. You're right that moving in 2012 will be easier for your dogs.

Keep us posted :)
