W8-BEN Question (IRA Related)
I would be interested if any non US citizen that have returned to the UK have experience of tax filing with an IRA withdrawal, specifically to confirm that a USA 1040NR tax filing is required following a withdrawal from an IRA, where a W8-BEN is on file? NB This would the sole USA income for the tax year (UK domiciled for some years).
The IRA company confirm they do not withhold funds at withdrawal (due to W8-BEN). My assumption is that even without the tax withholding, US tax will still be due for the withdrawal which would be considered US income within the tax year.
Separately I'm interested in how the tax treaty affects the taxation treatment of the withdrawal in the UK?
