Default visiting UK

Hi guys,, just needed some help as i am getting different responses. My father in law who is a green card holder wants to come and visit us in the uk for one month whilst going to India. The question is, should his passport be valid for six months when coming into the uk or does it not matter if he is to show a valid airline ticket stating that he is basically in transit and that he will be off within a month regardless of the 6 months validity??

Ditto.

This site says "Passport (must be valid for the period of intended stay)
required."
And that a visa is required.
