I've posted this link on a couple of different threads, but it might be useful here too...

Wouldn't it be better to have links like these on a wiki page? Threads drop down and get lost.

Pensioners and disabled people get free bus travel anywhere in Scotland... I have used my pass to travel from Dundee to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

I think this site is useful for figuring out where to live in london with various parameters (prices, communting distances etc):
commutefrom.com: Where to buy a house on London's commuter routes - commute times, fares and house prices
I also found this site useful for when I was studying for my life in the UK Test:

As has been said before be prepared to stand on your own feet and expect a huge drop in standard of living especially if you want to settle in the SE England. If you can accept that you will be ok. You have not given us much to go on, for example if you are living in a Constantia house worth over R8million then you should have enough to buy a small flat/house and money in bank to help you live. If not much left after exchange rate you may find you are better off where you are. Friends of ours wanted to come home also from Cape Town, same age as you, and after spending a few weeks here on holiday found it would be too much of a struggle so moved to McGregor and bought a small house there with plenty over for retirement.
