Default USA office jet 4650 color printer in the UK?

got this HP 4650 office jet color printer, scanner etc. No indication of voltage etc. on it. Any idea if it will work the UK?
Same question for an HP laser jet 6P. except that says 120volts and 50-60 Hz....

Google is your friend and tells you:Power 100-240 Vac, 50/60 Hz 0.7A so it should be good to go.HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer(F1J03A)| HP® United States

The 6P at 120 volts NO! Presumably you are aware that UK voltage is 240.

thank you. Yes, aware of the 240v. However, I was wondering if, with a step down transformer, it would work, given the 6p is 50-60Hz....what are your thoughts on this?

Really not worth the effort.

It would work - the US has 60Hz main power, the UK has 50Hz mains power, and 50Hz-60Hz just means that the printer will run on either, with a step-down transformer.

Be aware that the ink cartridges that you can buy in the UK for it may not work.

Given how many cartridge types there are, the right type might not be readily available in the UK/outside the US, but if the right type is available, why wouldn't they work?

The same reason there’s region encoding on DVDs.

Yea. there is. It's shocking but they really have taken it to this level (well, some printers have taken it to this extreme).

edit: that's Xerox. I've heard of others but I don't know specifically if this model is region encoded, just that some companies are doing it.

Apparently so. Not that surprising given that printer ink is so costly

I made the mistake of shipping an Epson inkjet printer from the USA to the UK last year. It is dual voltage and works fine but, yes, I now find that the ink cartridges for it are region specific. So you have to buy them from the USA - although Amazon won't ship the cartridges out of the USA. An Amazon marketplace supplier would ship to the UK but wanted $40 for the cartridge and $80 to ship it. I just bought a new UK printer for $120 instead.

Richard.
