University question

We have made the decision to move back to England after living in Australia for almost 9 years. My son would like to go to University when we move back.
I have heard that he will have to pay international fees because he has lived out of the country for over 3 years.
Does any one know if this is true, even if he was born in England?

Hi Rachel,

I've moved this to our moving back to the UK section, as this question comes up fairly regularly and I have seen that some people have managed to get domestic fees. Hopefully someone will be along with some help shortly :)

Re: University question

If you run a search for "university" on this part of the BE Forum, you'll find several other threads on this topic.

In general, the answer is "Yes", but there are some nuances (in other words, there have been one or two people who have found a way to avoid the international student fees situation).

Re: University question

Since you will be paying foreign student fees anyway consider having him study in continental Europe. Being fluent in more than one major language is going to be a big advantage in the labour market in years to come.
Here is an interesting website to get started on research
Europe - Complete University Guide

There are still some (only a few) scholarships in a few specialist subjects in the unlikely event there just happens to be a fit.
