Default UK State Pension - Help

Sorry if this has been discussed before - but I cant find mention of my type of case.
I am English, living in USA. Worked in U.K. for 5 years, in Germany for 8 and U.S.A. for 30. When I turned 60, filed for U.K. pension using my German and UK work under the EUC entitlement. Began receiving modest payment from
60th birthday. Have now filed for U.S. social security and find that my US payout is reduced $200 per month because I receive the UK pension of $130 per month. This is due to WEP (Windfall Elimination).
My husband went on line and learned that WEP wouldn't apply (he thinks) if my UK pension was based on UK/USA work instead of UK/German work - so I contacted UK pension office and asked that my pension be recomputed. They replied, one year and several phone calls later, that they had contacted US embassy in Londan (I guess there are USA social security people working there) that it wouldn't change anything and thus, no reason for UK to act.
Does anyone know anything about this stuff and can you advise on what to do?
