Scouser Lottery.

There's a thought.

I mentioned it as he had no problem obtaining the US Certification iro plumbing. I did ask him how he had found switching over, got the impression that he had a fairly low opinion of US practices.

Aye, whole new planet, so probably should be allowed to give the lottery a go

So nothing back from the OP then?

Because, if likely, the US ain't a goer, that doesn't mean you can't consider other countries like Canada, Oz etc that have skills visa's...

Hi:

When it comes to the construction trades -- there is a beastie called "Davis-Bacon" by which building contractors doing work for the Federal Government are required to pay "prevailing wage" -- and Davis Bacon determinations have no relation to real world wages -- and the Government grossly overpays. Usually Union-scale is the finest prevailing wage you can imagine for government purposes -- but I've seen D-B wage scales 20% higher than Union Scale! Go figure.

Yep, it's difficult, but getting into the US purely on plumbing skills just isn't going to happen. However, being a plumber and marrying a USC, is a whole different ball game, he'd be made for life, turn up, do a good job and charge reasonable prices, he'd be laughing.

When I first arrived in the US, one of the first Brits I met was standing in the plumbing isle of Home Depot, having a good chat with one of their (surprisingly knowledgable) plumbing assistants.

I got talking to the guy and he told me that he'd been in the US for 12 years, travelling from state to state working as a "master decorative plasterer". I didn't have the nerve to ask him about his immigration status, but his claim that he hadn't lived in the same place for more than 6 months in 12 years was probably a clue!

If he works in NYC, then he may well be a plumber millionaire. You should see the charges.
