UK driving license - Swapped for full G in Ontario- swap back?
#1

We moved to Canada just over 5yrs ago and are considering moving back to the UK next summer.
I passed my test in a manual car in the UK and was able to just swap it for a full G license when we arrived in Toronto. I did have to relinquish my UK license at Service Ontario when they swapped them over (they took it off me in the office).
If we do return to the UK will I have to resit my test to enable me to drive a manual car? Can I just get a copy of my old license sent to our house when we’re back and residents again?

You can swap your Ontario licence for your full GB licence for free. Just pick up Form D1 from the Post Office and ensure you complete the box for your GB driving licence number. If you no longer have it then you can call the DVLA and ask them.

I don’t have my driving license number unfortunately. Do I just have to provide my most recent UK address from when we lived there last?

Just give them a call and they’ll ask for some details to confirm your identity.

When we exchanged our license last year, we didn't know our license number. We didn't phone DVLA , we just filled in the form and put in our passport number. As long as your passport is valid they take that as I.D. We had no problems getting our GB license back.

We are flying back to the UK later today. How long did it take until you received your UK license? We’ve already had the photos taken and have the forms filled. We will just post it tomorrow.

Hi - in a similar but slightly different case, myself and my wife looking at possibility of splitting time between Nova Scotia and UK with UK being the majority so NS is less than 6 months. I know that in NS you can use your UK licence for 90 days after which you need to swap for NS licence. In my scenario, could I keep on swapping between the two as we spend roughly 6 months in NS, then 6 months UK, then 6 months NS etc etc
would that work?
thanks
