Transit VISA thru Europe
Hello everyone,
I am in the US on an L1B (expired 10/04). I will be traveling to India in Jan 2005 and come back with a new US VISA stamp in my passport. My question is, when I transit thru Paris, should I get an Airport transit VISA from the French consulate here, even though I am not going to step out of the plane in Paris ? Different people give different answers. Does anyone have a credible source/ answer that could be relied on ?
Thanks in advance !
Anand.

Very unlikely, but your Airline will know for certain.

What does the French consulate say ?
Also. what does the arlines say ?
I assume Air France will know of
any such requirement.
I am not too sure. Two or three years
I heard of a transit visa requirement.
Then the requirement was most likely
wthdrawn.

Re: Transit VISA thru Europe
From the information below you should be fine without a visa.
Based on IATA information found on the KLM site:
National INDIA (IN) /Embarkation U.S.A. (US)
Transit FRANCE (FR) /Destination INDIA (IN)
ALSO CHECK DESTINATION INFORMATION BELOW
Visa - issued prior to arrival - required.
However, if holding visa for Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland Rep., Italy,
Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway,
Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United
Kingdom or U.S.A.:
visa not required provided:
- continuing by same or connecting aircraft to a third country
without leaving the airport; and
- arriving and departing from/to a non-Schengen country
(see: TIRGL/SCHS ).
If transiting to:
1. Another Schengen state (as a ticketed point):
Schengen transit visa -issued prior to arrival- required,
unless holding valid Schengen visa for one of the other
Schengen states.
For details on Schengen Agreement see: For details, click here ;
2. Basle/Geneva (Switzerland): see "Warning" below.
Issue (not applicable to Schengen transit visa) on arrival of:
- Transfer Authorization for connection between the different
terminals of Paris airports.
- 3 days' transit visa. However, it is highly recommended
to obtain a visa prior to arrival.

Re: Transit VISA thru Europe
Hi All,
Thanks for the responses. I haven't heard from the French consulate yet. The airline is Air-India and they want me to check with the consulate..(
From Dan's reply, it seems like I may need a transit visa, because I dont hold a valid USA visa (it expired last month). SO, I guess I need to go and get one.
Thanks
Anand.
