TOR application and packing lists
Trying to get my head around the process and timing maybe very tight.
There is a good chance that i will be moving back to the UK depending on how my job interview goes in a couple of weeks. Whatever happens we expect to move back to the UK in the next year.
In preparation for that we decided to sell our house here in NJ after a massive 1 years worth of ownership Was worried we would struggle to sell, but someone fell in love straight away.
So my timeline looks something like this.
Job Interview and decision - 29th Oct
Move out of existing house - 29th Nov
Start new position - 1st Jan and join UK payroll.
Simple so far, but it will take us a few months to wind down our lives here in the USA and expect to have some accommodation here until Feb-Mar. I would spend most of my time in the UK/Europe and my wife here in USA.
Current thoughts are to essentially pack 80% of our belonging up and put in a container. I would expect this to then arrive in UK at the start of 2020. We will then put in storage as we buy a new house - aiming for end of Feb.
So i am trying to see if there are any issues:
1. My wife will still be on a US payroll until Feb. So in theory she wont of taken up residency - does this pose a problem
2. Whilst we have a list of goods to ship back they will be in multiple shipments - container will be the main one, then maybe a pallet and we have our cats. I understand the TOR can be used multiple times, but when applying for a TOR i wont have packing with associated numbers. i.e. Box 1 = clothes, Box 2 = xxx Hoping they are not asking for that level of detail, just items now ?
3. I have seen a couple of packing list examples but none seem to cover electronics - so would Box 1 - AV and Computer Equipment suffice or will they want Nest Cam, Mac PC, Logitech Remote ?
Thanks

My thoughts are as follows.
1. My wife will still be on a US payroll until Feb. So in theory she wont of taken up residency - does this pose a problem.
No. Folks are taxed as individuals so she will not become tax resident in the UK until the day she arrives so her US earnings will only be taxable in the USA.
2. Whilst we have a list of goods to ship back they will be in multiple shipments - container will be the main one, then maybe a pallet and we have our cats. I understand the TOR can be used multiple times, but when applying for a TOR i wont have packing with associated numbers. i.e. Box 1 = clothes, Box 2 = xxx Hoping they are not asking for that level of detail, just items now ?Not sure, we came back with a single container
3. I have seen a couple of packing list examples but none seem to cover electronics - so would Box 1 - AV and Computer Equipment suffice or will they want Nest Cam, Mac PC, Logitech Remote ? I didn’t list electronics individually and like you had items such as Nest Cams and printers.

Re: TOR application and packing lists
Thanks for the reply
1. I wasn’t too much worried about where my wife pays tax, but that our belongings will actually arrive in the UK prior to her taking up residency. It would seem in most cases people will be back in country for good before their possessions arrive
2. It would be a pain if the TOR could only be used once, I’m sure the cats wouldn’t appreciate a month in a sea container
3. Thanks
