Time apart before applying for spousal visa

I am a UK national. I have been living overseas (outside of EU) for more than twenty years, and have been married for that same time too. I have recently bought a house off-plan in the UK. It will be completed this October/November and I intend to move to the UK to live in it. The intention is that my foreign spouse will join me next year, probably September (2019); we wish her to stay overseas to supervise our children who are attending college and to work to her retirement age in her home country.
My question is this: As my wife and I will be apart from each other for approximately nine months, will this affect our application for a spousal visa? That is, despite being married for over twenty years, will it appear suspicious that we are apart for this period of time? We have never been apart before.

Unlikely to cause a problem so long as you provide an explanation.

I agree and I would suggest you keep good records of your communication with each other during the time you are apart, such as emails, WhatsApp, etc.
