texting the uk
Morning all
For the last couple of years my other half has used a prepaid at&t go phone (He is in the USA) to text me on my uk mobile. The texts have always just come out of his prepaid package ( why does that sound so rude?) Now suddenly without any warning - att just stopped sending them - - I know this is probably up to them as theres no contract with a go phone but its a bit of a p.i.t.a I have looked on the go phone website this morning and there are a hundred countries you can text from your allowance but the UK has been removed. So we are looking for an alternative and I wondered if anyone here has any recommendations. T mobile offer inclusive international texts in some of their prepaid deals so we are looking at them but would also like other options We use skype a lot but have been spoiled with unlimited free texts which now sadly appear to be a thing of the past ...grrr |
Re: texting the uk
If you both had smartphones (iPhones, Blackberrys, Androids or Nokias) you could use the WhatsApp Messenger service?
I didn't know whether he was using a Go-Phone purely for the free sms or that's all he has :) |
Re: texting the uk
ooh good point!
the go-phone is all he has but to be honest it might be worth looking at a blackberry - as thats what i have - thanks for that! |
Re: texting the uk
Well, if you're already on a Blackberry, then isn't BBM (the Blackberry Messaging service) free between Blackberry devices anyway?
Not sure, as I've never had one, but that was the impression I got |
Re: texting the uk
i think it is rallybug but ive never used it and am not sure if its international or just between people on same provider etc - will look into it and see about getting one for him
ty once again |
Re: texting the uk
If you already have a Blackberry then he should get one too. I use BBM to chat with my sister for free every day - I'm in Austin, TX, she's in Leeds.
Other family members in the UK have iPhones so I installed WhatsApp and use that to chat with them - again totally free. Both BBM and WhatsApp can send voice notes and pictures for free too. AT&T just bought T-Mobile - so that might be one of the reasons his service changed?? He'd also be able to get a sweet deal on a Blackberry if he signed a one year deal - my husband and I got both of ours for zero dollars! |
Re: texting the uk
Thanks BK
thats what I am looking around for now - unfortunately HE is useless at finding deals and hasnt got the patience - so I am doing an online search right now and then I will be in the US the week after next so, can get it all signed sealed and delivered : ) thanks again |
