My knowledge of Tetbury is only from having visited a few times, as it was fairly local to us.

We went to have a 'mooch' on a weekend afternoon sometimes. The high street is great for that, if you like popping in and out of teeny little shops and expensive antiques shops! (And pubs) The countryside around is great; part of the hunting set all around there, (including Charles and Camilla) - ye olde English type place.

I would imagine the houses are not too cheap, bearing in mind the location etc, but I would have thought the outskirts might be more bearable (not knowing your personal circumstances of course!)

Hope this helps some?

Jo

Tetbury was 12 miles up the road from us. I'd rather live there than the Easterhouse estate in Glasgow. But. We found the people very 'up' themselves - it's a farmin' shootin' fishin' sort of place with the highest percentage of 'The Countryside Counts, Listen to Us' stickers per head of population in the UK. Drive a Range Rover Vogue and wear green wellies and you'll fit right in.

Property's bloody expensive - particularly Highgrove, unless you want to live on the council estate. On the plus side, it's close to the M4, so you can pass the time of day with complete strangers whilst attempting to travel in a London direction. Parking, at pretty much any time of day, is a nightmare and the only supermarket in town is a particularly daggy Somerfields, though there is a Tescos fairly close-by. There is also only one petrol outlet in town - and it charges accordingly.

I can recommend the coffee at the Blue Zucchini Brasserie, but don't sit outside in summer or you'll get an 18 wheel juggernaut passing by three inches from your duck liver pate served with toasted French bread & plum ginger chutney.

Prince Charles, of course, lives nearby, with sister Anne just down the road. This means that pretty much everything nearby has been 'opened' by his most royal highness. Every bus stop, phone box and dogging-spot has been given the royal seal of approval.

On the up-side, you're on the edge of the Cotswolds, which even I will not say a bad word about.

If you're seriously looking at that neck of the woods, then you ought to have a long hard look at Stroud and Nailsworth. I lived in the latter for five years and it's the least 'up itself' town in the Cotswolds by a long way. Property's far more reasonably priced and it's a great place to live - loads of proper little shops rather than endless indenti-kit high street chains. It has its fair share of the green wellie brigade, but it's also an honest little working town with a fair bit of light industry hidden away in the valley floor. Seriously - give it a look.

Being an ex-Nailsworth boy, I'd obviously join in and sing it's praises! it is getting very expensive to live, but location wise it's a reasonable commute to Swindon, Glos or Cheltenham.

Following on from Hutch's comments about the Tetbury Council estate, we used to have regular punch up's with them, when they would come over, give us all a beating and then go back home. Reason why I'm linking them to the council estate was that it was Ford Escorts and Vauxhall Viva's, not Land Rovers!

Fairly easy commute (by UK standards) from Nailsworth to Swindon down the A419. It's mostly dual carriageway and whilst it gets a bit busy at peak times, at least it's not the M4! Used to take me about 40 minutes if I remember correctly.

OMG didnt realise Nailsworth was so popular lived there for 26 years before moving up the road to Stroud for 8 years

Tetbury is a lovely typical Cotswold small town, but yes very pricey. I didnt find the people to bad, lots of antique shops if your into that kind of thing.
