Tax resident of UK and Spain
Hi
I know I cannot be tax resident of two countries at the same time. But I don't understand how this works with the UK and Spain having different tax years. My situation is:
UK national
Live in Spain from August 2016 - October 2018
Live in UK from October 2018 onwards
In Spain the tax year is the calendar year, so I will be tax resident for 2018 as I lived and worked there for more than 183 days. In the UK the tax year is April to April, so I will be tax resident there for 2018/19. My question is, do I need to declare my worldwide income in Spain for 2018, and also my worldwide income in the UK for 2018/19? From what I have read it seems like living in the UK and being a UK national will mean that the UK 'wins' and I am a tax resident there and not Spain, but I can't work out if this definitely applies for the 2018 Spain tax year given the timings.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Angus
