Switching on utilities

Hi Just wanted to know how long does it take for gas and electricity company to switch on these. We will be shiftin into an apartment and wondered if we can get it turned on,on the same day we arrive.

Generally, water, gas and electricity are not "switched off" between occupants, you just inform the utility company that you have moved in and give them the meter reading and away you go. Water and/or gas may have been turned off at the meter(s) for safety if the property was unoccupied for a long time, but you can turn the taps/levers back on yourself. Telephone and internet can be different, and depending on your location and chosen provider you could have service instantly or wait 6 - 8 weeks, or anything in between.

This is assuming that this is not a new build property - first occupants of new builds sometimes have a wait to get utilities turned on but the builder/developer should be able to advise on that.
