Default Storing a houseful of 'stuff'

We are looking at selling our UK house and buying elsewhere in UK. As we live overseas this could mean we won't find the next house for a while, maybe 12 months or more.

As a ball park figure, can anybody tell me what the monthly charge would be for storing the furniture and 'stuff' from a 3 bed, 2 reception, double garage house?

Also, any suggestion or experiences regards a good storage company to use.

Also (2), if the house sale were to complete whilst we were overseas, will they pack the furniture and 'stuff' prior to storage or do you do that your self?

Thanks
Victor

Full service moving companies will do all your packing, if that is what you request. They also do storage, so I'd just Google moving companies where your house is, or use yellow pages, and if there is someone with a key to your place get someone to come and give you a quote.

Like most other things connected to buildings and their usage it will depend where in the UK your things are stored. If you know the area where you will be buying, and if you use a national company, such as Pickford's, you might ask if it would be cheaper to store your stuff near your intended destination rather than near your current house.

http://www.safestore.co.uk has a pretty good looking web site and locations across the UK, and will give you a quote for storage based on your estimate.

I think it varies a bit based on where you are going to have the storage. One thing you can consider is using a facility further away from say Central London (if that's the case) for your storage. The cost of driving it there will more than pay for itself with lower monthly rents.

When we put our stuff in storage, we sold some items that would depreciate over time (like the television, a computer, etc). No sense in letting them sit for a few years and not really being all that current when we came back.
