Status on return to UK
Hello folks.
I live in England and have just begun the K1 process to join my fiancee in
Maryland. We've discussed possibly us moving back to England after 5 years.
Would I still be classed as a UK citizen and would I qualify for us both to
get back without a similar process as this one.
I have 2 sons in the UK. Would I still qualify for pension and benefits
after being away from the UK.
Thanks
Dave

Yes of course you will keep your British citizenship. In fact, the only way to lose it is to go to a British consular official and formally renounce it! (Source: http://www.britain-info.org - passport section, see under 'dual nationality).
You will be able to claim an index-linked UK pension if you remain in the USA (it's not index-linked in certain countries eg. Canada, Australia, S. Africa, which is very unfair). You can even continue to pay 'voluntary' Class III NI stamps within 8 years of leaving the UK so you will be entitled to a full State UK pension when you reach retirement age. There is info on the similarly named http://www.british-expats.com website on the message boards (under visas & immigration section).

Unless they change the rules, once you're married getting in to the UK is
a lot easier than getting in to the the US. My wife (who is USC) and I
were married in Niagra Falls and managed to sort out the visa for her to
return with me within a week (and 5 days of that was waiting for the
marriage cert). We sorted it all out in 1 day at the British Embassy in NY
in one day before flying out. We're just starting the process of moving to
the US now. Good luck.
