something I used to belong to when I worked away a lot and was only in London on odd occasions was 'spice'. (think they are still going). Its a group where the franchisee organises events and you just chose what you want to go on and pay. I met lots of nice people that way- mainly professionals with heavy workloads all trying to squash in a social life too!
