Default "Show me the way to go home..."

Good morning all,

I've been on here sporadically in the last few years I think.. probably about visas. Now, we're in the process of applying for a spouse visa to go home. I guess I'm needing a little support as right now I'm feeling a combination of excitement at the thought of going home and fear and anxiety if my hubby doesn't get the visa.

Been married almost 3 years, and I've lived in Dubai with him since we married. Hubby is Iraqi and a simple quiet man with a sometimes, recently, moody, neurotic english wife who just wants to go home!! Honestly, the spouse visa stresses me out because there is so much riding on it.. my sanity!!!

We are using an immigration specialist to help and the comms between us are a bit slow (her end I might add) and I just want to get it finished before the end of November. Hoping to return home beginning of Jan 2012.

It was sort of my choice to come to Dubai as hubby couldn't get a visa, even a visit or family visa to come to UK to see my family, so off I went to Dubai - no idea about the place. Very homesick when I first came here and despite settling in to an extent about 6 months ago.. now the UK is approaching winter, I'm so homesick again.. I miss so much about home and feel trapped in this country.

If anyone can give some advice about the spouse visa.. any tips.. would be most appreciated. We have a list of docs as long as our arm to start with so should all be ok but I'm so nervous. If hubby cannot get the visa, gawd knows what we'll do. Three choices: I stay here indefinitely; I go to UK leaving hubby here or worst ever scenario, divorce. (Hubby has a ban on him applying for normal visits after he carelessly forgot to mention that years ago his cousin applied for him to visit Canada for a family wedding which was refused.. crash, bang, wallop - 10 year ban. We were all gutted!!!!). So not even like we can both go to UK for holidays to ease the thought of having to stay here.

Anyway, so the spouse visa is sort of very important for us.

And does anyone know.. if he is granted the visa, when he gets into Heathrow, will he have to see immigration offices? Will they let him walk out of Heathrow? I have this irrational fear, after seeing the film Terminal with Tom Hanks, that my husband will be held by immigration and not allowed out of Heathrow airport. My husband would then have no country to go back to except his own, Iraq and that would be just the worst as he has no home there, no job, nothing.. and always there is such danger there - that was the reason he and all his family left!!

Sorry for rambling.. sigh.. want to get home.. see my family and friends, live a 'normal' life again... have a sense of reality back once more.

Thanks for reading jottings from almost insane woman!

I don't know anything about the spouse visas, but just wanted to send you a big Hug. I'm sure others on here will have helpful info for you. Take care

Hi,

We have just come back from a short stay in Dubai and although I love it U I know its so different when you actually live somewhere rather than holidaying. If your visa agent is not great could you not find another company who could advise you on visa's? is there not a British Embassy in the UAE you could either phone or call in and directly ask their advice if not do you know of any expats in Dubai who could advice you or recommend you a reputable and good Visa Agency? things might feel overwhelming to you at the moment but when you have the correct person to help deal with your situation then you can ask question about your worries etc and hopefully relieve you of the thoughts that worry you the most. Good luck and hopefully you will get all the help you need in the mean time please (and I know its hard) try not to stress about things too much

I would have thought you'd need an actual visa lawyer to advise on the laws, aren't visa agents just people who help you fill out the forms? Maybe I'm wrong.
The CAB has info on immigration and solicitors
