Default Shipping from San Francisco to UK

Has anyone moved their household from San Francisco to the UK ?

I'm looking for any advice you may be able to give.

Hi,

Anything specific you have questions about or is it just the process in general?

This guide might help in finding a company to assist with your shipping.

Hope it helps.

A search for ["shipping us to uk" site:britishexpats.com] brings up a fair number of threads.

(Answer to your question is yes. Perhaps you could refine the question?)

I've made some progress. I've decided on a sole use 20ft container and got a bunch of quotes.
Things you need to take into account when comparing quotes:
Are they shipping door to door or door to port.
Is insurance included, and at what price for how much coverage.
Is customs paperwork included.
Cost of document fees.

Where are you shipping from and to ?

Thanks that's very helpful. So far I have been looking at full pack and ship options. We are going back to the West Country - no firm address yet. Can you give me any recommendations for companies? So far I have quotes from Crown and Contour.

Best (price) I found so far is Home - WWW.INTER-MOVERS.COM Call Now 1-877-287-8874 Moving Internationally? You Need Inter-Movers. International Freight Shipping Services.

My contact is Alex at email: [email protected]

Tell them Graeme Scott recommended them, it may be mutually beneficial if we gang up on them.

I find that figuring out the shipping logistics is the most confusing part of this process! I will check the above link as well, we don't want to ship much but it would be nice if we could take our TV's, a few small kitchen appliances, etc.

It's unlikely that these will work, unless you buy a transformer (even then they might not work properly), which may or may not be "allowed" by home insurers.

Imo, you would be better off buying kitchen appliances once you get to the states.

Not sure about TVs.

thanks! I really just mean our nutribullet now that I think about it! I'm sure it would work with a converter or do you think it's kind of like a blow dryer? Clearly I'm not very educated in electronics and power supplies, haha!

I have no idea about a nutribullet; here's a basic explanation of the differences in electrical "stuff":
Electrical Plug/Outlet and Voltage Information for United States of America : Adaptelec, International Electrical Specialists

A quick Google tells me I can buy a nutribullet in the US for less than a decent transformer.

I'm looking for a company to provide a 20 foot sole use, self pack and load container and ship it from Fremont CA to Northumberland in the UK.

Any recommendations?

Have a look at upak we ship UPakWeShip International Shipping Company | Cheap Overseas Shipping Rates We ended up with rainier overseas shipping Welcome - Rainier Overseas Movers as we didn't keep enough for a whole container. They have a bay area yard where they store, pack and ship, we took everything there in boxes and they packed it into a wooden crate
