Default Shipping Pets to the UK

For anyone shipping pets to the UK, please be aware that the whole procedure must begin 7 months in advance to avoid having to put your pet(s) in quarantine. The procedure starts with microchipping and rabies shots.

Quarantining pets in the UK can be expensive. It is costing me more to ship my cat than it is my wife. Still, I suppose it is a question of priorities.

thanks for this we have recently found this out to our horror, what you can do is make plans and put you beloved pet in quaratine for the balance of the 6 months this is what we will be doing for January it also gives us time to sort rentals etc

The company we are using to ship our pet over also has boarding facilities. We are planning on keeping our dog here for around 3 months before she travels to avoid the uk quarantine. We feel she will have a little more freedom here than in the quarantine facilities.

I will contribute to this insofar as just because you do your rabies shots every year, and then you do your obligatory blood titre test, do not always expect your dog to be at an acceptable titre level to return to the U.K.
We are returning 'home' with 10 dogs, 3 cats, a tortoise and a parrot
All the dogs were vaccinated on the same day, by the same vet, with the same vaccine, and sent to the same lab in Kansas.....and two of them failed However we did kick up a fuss, insofar as the required legal legislation regarding rabies vaccinations, and we got the repeats for free
Unfortunately that means that the two dogs that failed cannot return with the other dogs, until 6 months from the date of the blood draw. Oh well, just another major hurdle

We were advised by our vet to have 2 vaccinations 1 month apart as there had been a lot of cases where the first one had not worked. After reading this I'm glad I took her advice. Luckily we got the results back a few weeks ago and everything was OK.

My cats had the rabies jab just the once....worked perfectly well.

It's all a money making scam, Rabies doesn't exist in OZ or UK, so why they have to have the jab is stupid.

So how does it work with this Kansas blood test thing. I paid a vet in Texas to run a rabies test on our Cat back in 2008 and this was sent to the Kansas lab. A few weeks later the vet said that the test passed, but thinking about it now I didn't get any paperwork from the vet confirming the result even though I paid around $150 for it. I seem to remember the vet saying to contact him when the dog needed to travel.

Does the vet have some some test result paper back from Kansas and should I be entitled to a copy of this ? Also what happens with this paperwork when I decide to take the dog to the UK, do I need to take it with me to a USDA regional office for some official stamp, or does my vet need to send it directly to them ?

Thanks
