Shipping East Coast USA to UK April 2022

Just spoke with my agent in the UK. The cost of ocean freight for a 40 foot container from the US East Coast to the UK is holding at around $1900. No packing or loading this is only freight.
There are delays now in booking trucks and rail for transport to the docks.
The shipping lines are skipping ports which may result in a longer journey and more expensive trucking cost. for example we are around 120 miles from Norfolk Virginia but the vessel may skip Norfolk and want to load in Wilmington NC around 270 miles away.
Due to port congestion in the UK the vessel may skip the UK port and unload in a European part such as Rotterdam or Hamburg and unloading in the UK when space is available.

Shipping is certainly expensive right now. We shipped from Savannah GA to Liverpool UK last August. It arrived in the UK on 8th November 2021, cost $15,000 in total for a 20' container including all packing loading and storing. It unloaded in Hamburg because the vessel skipped London and had to be reloaded on a smaller vessel then by road freight to Liverpool.

When we flew out of the US last September, we flew from FL to JFK then London, flying over Savannah and Norfolk, I counted 37 container vessels anchored off the coast and waiting to dock in port. It certainly provided a bit of context to the lack of imports and wait list for everything from a fridge/freezer to a printer and various other materials.
