Shipping container advice OZ-UK
Hello there,
As a family, we have decided Australia isn't for us and wish to return back to England, where we can happily moan about the English weather!
Just wondered whether anyone can help with shipping container advice or recommend a company that deals in this, who are reasonably priced?
We intend to move only part of the household items and hold big garage sales to get rid of the non-essentials.
We are in the Brisbane area. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

www.intlmovers.com is a good place to start - it lists all the international movers in your area!

Hi We have just shipped our stuff with Kent International and up to now cant praise them enough. We found our original shipping details and asked 3 companies to quote on slightly less than we brought as the original company overpacked our stuff. We used 20 less boxes than original packers did.....
Kent charged us 4,000 for approx half a 20 ft container (15cub mtrs) we packed ourselves and the guys where lovely efficient, polite and quick all loaded in 90 mins furniture left the port a week later and is on its way HOME Kent use John Masons at uk end who have good reputation. We had a slightly lower quote from another company but they use Britannia in Uk and we had no end of trouble with them ie they rang us on the day of our departure from uk and charged us and extra 550 quid as they had underestimated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO amount of arguing that it was their fault would change their minds so we had to pay up.GGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. /so on principle we didnt go with them.
try [email protected] he answered our emails at 10pm at night..
How about that for service.

we are in the same position as you except delete England and insert Scotland
anyway we got a quote from www.chessmoving.com.au They handled this side when we moved over and were very good
now the quote was for a full packing and unpacking service and a 20ft conainer and the cost is $7000 i think it is a very good price

Chess have been useless and washed their hands of it even although initial contract was with them
Unfortunately the UK agents, they call the shots as they have your stuff and the longer you argue the more they charge for storage!!!!!
If i did it again (which i won't!!) I would definitely use Crown..fab on the way out and have own offices in Uk and Aus.
ps...still so excited at being back...worth all the hassle!!

Hi and thanks all for your replies! Wow, Chess were sounding so promising right up until the end there! We will contact all mentioned for quotes, anyway, and also check there'll be no nasty hidden extras at the other end!!
Will have to work out what size container we'll need, this weekend. Sounds like we'll only be taking about a third the amount you guys mentioned.
Is there a website/phone number for Crown?
I can't wait to get back, either, lorids. Hope to be back for Christmas and, for me, it just can't come soon enough! Everyone here says we're mad for going back.

Careful as we moved back with Chess who were fantastic Perth side but use agents this side which for us were Abels (England) and McCormicks (Aberdeen Scotland)....big mistake. They were all trying to make their profit and charged us extra twice this side for demurrage as they couldn't uplift from port in time!!, extra for the actual delivery although less than a quarter unpacked and all in all 7 hours of service on what was originally quoted a 2 day delivery and unpack. To add insult to injury they charged us storage for items not delivered while we were debating the extra costs claimed!!!!!!

no hidden costs as far as I am aware we should be back before furniture so once through customs it should be straight up to us..........

I would recommend Kents or Chess, both came in with a reasonable quote for us to move back to UK. We are using Kents, they were the most helpful and cheapest.

Re: Shipping container advice OZ-UK
My 20 ft container from UK to OZ contained everything we possessed. We had a 4 bedroomed house in UK and 2 living rooms, so the container was brimming, but it all fit in.
