Is there a part of this site that is dedicated to the actual moving part of relocating?
I’m looking for recommendations for shipping containers from the US to the UK. Any tips on what to look for or what to avoid would be great.
Thanks

I think this is what you're looking for.

It is a bit dry over there, with a lot of "stock" answers and recommendations.

Bear in mind that whoever you use will pass your things to another company to receive and deliver your stuff in the UK, so it is always a bit of a crap shoot, but IMO the initial packing of your things is the most critical step as if things aren't well packed then the chances of damage or loss, through broken boxes, is greater.

You should certainly ask them who their associated company is in the UK, and research their reputation too, though ultimately you don't have any control if the receipt and delivery in the UK is handled by a different comany, or is subcontracted.

This is a really good tip. Make sure you're using a FIDI FAIM accredited mover at origin but also ask if they are using a FIDI FAIM mover at destination too. Among other things (FIDI check about 200 areas in their audit process) part of the certification is the process of selecting and managing overseas partners to ensure they are reputable, the interaction between origin / destination with paperwork, communication etc. - all with the aim of reducing any common loop holes that could lead to issues.

If you don't like who they want to use in the UK you can ask them to use someone else. Many companies will be happy to oblige providing they pass their quality checks, but bear in mind your price may change.
