Default Settling in the UK and maternity benefits

Hi all,

I'm preparing to move back to the UK with my American spouse (the Visa forum here has been super helpful!). We'll be living in the north, possibly a larger town or city. I have a job (its why we are moving) and hopefully she will find one too as she has loads of transferable skills (managing people and planning/financial forecasting). As the date gets closer, I know she is getting a bit nervous (and excited) so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help her settle in? And suggestions about work (etc the difference in job hunting) would be amazing. One final thing is that we are quite likely to have kids in the next few years. Do we need to worry about maternity benefits/healthcare for her while on a spouse visa?

She can't claim most public benefits but she is covered on the NHS and you can claim child benefit for your children.

You wife and child/ren will be covered for healthcare under the NHS. Hopefully she'll find work quickly, but if not she could consider a voluntary role with a not-for-profit organisation until she finds paid work. Lots of benefits to that, meeting people in your local community, getting a sense of a British workplace, gaining a local work reference, and of course helping others.

Best of luck with the move!

That's goog to know about the benefits. I hope she gets a job too (!) but voluntary/non-for-profit is a great idea!
