Selling house in UK - advice please
Hi
We're planning on selling our home in the UK. Our tenants have agreed to buy it from us. Unfortunately we've never sold a house in the UK and they have never bought in the UK. What are the steps in involved in selling a home?
Thanks
CWT

The solicitors do all the work. By law you must provide your solicitor with a copy of your passport...the page containing the info and photo. This must be notorised by a lawyer/solicitor before sending it to the solicitors. Not sure about the buyer if they are living in the UK at present...if not they must do the same.

As you have been renting it out one assumes it has not been your primary residence. There may be tax issues when you sell it.

Re: Selling house in UK - advice please
We are currently going through this, looking to exchange contracts and complete on a UK property June 14th.
The house we are selling was an investment property that we rented out and became more hassle than it was worth, so decided to sell.
We had to provide the solicitor with two photo ID's one was a passport and they had to certified by a professional (they send you a list of people, includes your bank manager, school principle, Dr. etc) We also had to provide two proofs of address here in the US that were less than 90 days old. Utility bill, phone bill car insurance etc again they had to be certified copies.
As a seller its a fairly straight forward process just find a good conveyancing solicitor in the UK.
Ours sends everything via email, we print it out and sign whats required, send scanned copies of the documents back to her then mail the originals.

If we were in the UK we could have just taken the ID's into her office and thats all they require however as we are overseas they had to be certified copies. They were required for the anti-money laundering regulations.

Correct...and certified/notorised by a practising lawyer...not just any Tom, Dick or Harry who can notorised in the US.
