Securing rental on return. Try this approach

Whilst we have been offered accomodation with OHs brother and my daughter when we return, ideally we want somewhere of our own asap.
Like most people here, doing that is hard work because of our lack of UK history and references. If you dont want to, or cannot afford to pay 6mths rent up front to an agent, I have discovered another avenue to help.

Advertise YOURSELF!!

I was sat here the other night, looking through Gumtree for any private rentals, when it suddenly dawned on me that seeing as its free to advertise on there, why not advertise ourselves as returnees and looking to either house sit or take on a short term let.
I just put that we are middle aged professional couple with small dog

Blow me down with a feather!! I've had 3 replies since Saturday :thumbsup:

I shall let you know how it goes as i will get my daughter to investigate the places to make sure they are kosher.

Thanks

According to my daugther, there is a glut of homes up for rent due to the recession. People dont want to sell so there are too many rentals right now. Hopefully we can take advantage of this.

On the otherhand, these places could be fleapits (ooh hang on i'm a flea pmsl  ) they cant let to anyone!! :sneaky:

This sounds like a good idea! I have been looking at Gumtree for when I return in July and I would certainly be willing to house sit. Keep us posted on how this goes as it could be an option for me also.
Unfortunately, I won't pass for a young Swedish au pair either:(

What a damned good idea!!! We will certainly give it ago rather than move in with the in-laws (shudder...)....
