Roll on 2016!!

Hi - I'm new to BE. I've really enjoyed reading about the experiences and emotional upheaval of those moving back to the UK.

I was born in the UK (semi-rural Hampshire), moved to London at 19 and stayed there for 2 years. I met lots of Aussies and decided to go backpacking in 1985. I have lived in quite a few places in Oz (Adelaide, Sydney and Central Queensland) so have had lots of different experiences.

I decided to go back to uni when my eldest daughter was one to train as a high school teacher. Have now been teaching for over 10 years in the state system.

In the last few years we have been back to the UK twice and now at the ripe old age of 50 I have made the decision to go back to live there...eeeekkkk!! It was so easy when I came here, just a backpack and a bag. Now I have two children and a big house full of 'stuff'!! I'm not concerned about selling my house - I had planned to do that anyway when my eldest finishes Year 12. Trying to get the painting and renovating done at the moment - always the way when you know you are going to sell!

I am feeling rather overwhelmed with all the financial decisions to make in relation to long service leave, superannuation, pensions, bank accounts, what to take with us, etc etc. I don't have a partner, so need to be a little bit savvy about money matters. I think I need to see a financial advisor!

The good thing about this forum is that I have realised that I am not alone. I don't hate Australia, but feel that my time here is done. The things I want to do and the people I want to be near are so much more accessible from the UK. I have some fantastic friends here in Oz, however lots of us are unsettled and looking forward to a new phase of our lives when our children fly the nest.

Cheers - MissGB :britflag

Welcome to BE! You are definitely at the right place. It can be very daunting but set yourself up with good lists, research and a plan and manage all aspects in smaller chunks. That way it will be easier. I noticed you mentioned long service leave? Does that mean you will keep your job open so that you could return if you do not like being back in UK?

There is a couple of threads where people of over 50 are moving back, grab a coffee and have a read of them!

Do you have family back in UK still? Would you move to where they live or to somewhere completely different? How do your children feel about the move?
