Roast tatties
just curious but do any of your uS friends/relatives ever do roasties when they have turkey or a sunday type dinner?
My lot have never had them and never heard of them. They also find it odd when I tell them that sometimes, at home, we might have roast, mash and boiled tatties with a big sunday dinner dinner. They are quite incredulous at the idea of three kinds of spuds on one plate. And this from a nation of people who put syrup on sasauges (oh dear).
Anyway, just wondering because we have the inlaws over tommoz for turkey dinner and I am doing roast spuds for them to try. I can't think of anything better with a big dinner. Maybe they will take off here

Re: Roast tatties
Whats all this roasting potatoes in a pot thing that you plug in and leave on the counter with the meat in business? They call them 'roast potatoes" here and they taste ****ing awful. Luckily I have educated Mrs. R into the art of real, proper, pukke, bona fide roast potato preperation and production.
My roast spuds are crispy golden on the outside and hot fluffy (like cotton wool) on the inside.
You've never had better.

never met an american who knew what roast taters were. If you can't mash it or fry it they're a bit clueless.

Re: Roast tatties
I don't know if this qualifies for roasted 'tatoes but this is how I make mine. I normally put them on a sheet pan after coating them with olive oil and kosher salt. Or I coat them in olive oil and season them with ranch dressing mix. I stick them in the oven and let them roast for a bit. I could be calling one process by another name. Who knows. Either way they are quite yummy.

First time my American OH tried roast potatoes, she loved them! Also loves roast parsnips despite the fact she never tried them before.
I get kudo's whenever I make roast spuds. Always have them at Christmas along with stuffing balls.

But... I'm not so much of a potato fan as to have more than one kind in one meal - can't imagine that really.

My family does not have two or three different variations of potatoes on the table as you described. Potatoes are veggies, yes, but they are not allowed in more than a large spoonful for people with diet restrictions, i.e diabetes. We will sometimes, not often, have a white and a sweet potato on the same table. As for your turkey dinner and roast potatoes the normal is mashed potatoes with turkey and gravy. But if that is what you wish to serve, go for it.
On to other veggies -- my family loves vegetables. Any and almost every one of them with the exception of collard greens. We eat our veggies normally fresh and steamed but again will have them roasted if the rest of the meal is roasted. Parsnips are served in my house but only in soups. I have tried them mashed with carrots at the Irish coffee shop and it did nothing for me.
As for syrup on sausages that is GROSS. Never heard of anyone doing that. Some might touch the sausage if you are having pancakes and they are on the same plate. But to deliberately do that, YUCKY. Now here I am talking about US breakfast sausages/pork not the Irish bangers or sausages that are served in the Irish coffee shops with breakfast.

Re: Roast tatties
Beef roast was prime rib or a Yankee pot roast. Prime rib means Yorkshire pudding, Yankee pot roast is an all in one with carrots and onions and potatos in the pot with the beef.
