Default Retiring back in the UK

I am seeking information on retiring back in the UK. I am a dual citizen who would be looking to return to the UK to retire (driven by the expense of medical coverage). I have a private pension in the United states. I am looking for specific information on how people access their US retirement money and experiences people have had or are having with this.

Thank you

Social security will pay into a UK account. Not sure about a private pension. You would need to have an open UK account first, of course, which, if you don't already have one, cannot be done until you are resident here. Not sure if you would then be able to transfer payment from here. It may require a trip back. We have kept a US account open for pension payments as we can use our daughter's address. Another option, and much easier if you are already collecting a pension. Good luck!

when we moved back 2 years ago we kept a US bank account into which my 2 US private pensions are paid and I transfer money to our UK bank account from time to time using Transferwise. When eligible for SS we will have them paid directly into our UK bank.

HSBC is the best route for this issue.
