This is the response I got from the MP after mailing him:
Thank you for your email. I apologise for the delay in responding but I was on annual leave when your email (and follow-up email) arrived.
Firstly, I appreciate you contacting me on this matter, and fully understand the sensitivity and concerns that you have raised about your individual circumstances. I know that a number of constituents and organisations have raised similar concerns.
As you are aware, this has become a very difficult situation for many people due to the current UK Government’s knee jerk reaction on immigration, and you have correctly stated the tougher restrictions that have now been put in place.
I have challenged some of the revised criteria, which is very arbitrary, and proposed a number of reasonable changes directly with the Government, for instance, your point about the length of marriage, etc.
Unfortunately, the Government has failed to respond to these criticisms and suggestions, and said it does not intend to change the present situation. This is disappointing as it does affect genuine people like yourself who want to return to the UK with their family without being a burden on the State and prepared to contribute, and also provide family support to an elderly sick relative.
If you wish, I could take up your case directly with the authorities by pleading special circumstances but, to be honest, I am not certain that this would necessarily lead to the desired outcome – but we could try!
Anyway, thanks again for getting in touch and sharing your views and concerns on this matter.
With best wishes.
Yours sincerely
Graeme Morrice MP
Livingston Constituency
There are some good guys out there!

What a nice letter!
"Knee jerk reaction" indeed! Too bad there aren't more like him in Parliament right now.
