Default Recommended shipping companies US->UK?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a shipping company from the US to the UK? We were thinking that a UK based company would be best as they'd most likely be familiar with the import customs and transfer of residency.

Thanks!

I am sure many of the major shipping countries will be familiar with the process. We used Pickfords when we moved to the US...they used a US company to collect our belongings from the port and deliver them. Maybe a large UK company could recommend a US company...or maybe they now have a UK/US subsidiary company.

Thanks! My assumption is that any company will sub-contract things out to movers at either end, etc.

We were recommended Rainier Overseas movers. they are based in the US in Seattle I believe. We haven't moved yet, but David has seemed very helpful so far, and the rates seem reasonable.

Just wanted to check in to see if you found any removal companies you got quotes from the US to the UK. We are still on the fence with booking Rainier and would love some other options to look into. Thanks!

Not yet. The recommendation for Pickfords is one we will follow up on as we know them from our time in England. Having a company based in the UK seems best as the import regulations will be the tricky bit.

We moved from the Bay Area to the Netherlands with Crown Worldwide Movers based in San Leandro, 7 years ago. Since it was a company move we didn't have a choice but we also didn't have to pay! We found them very professional and we had a personal contact for all our questions. They will come and do a visual survey first. They dealt with a NL based company for all the importing paperwork, container storage and delivery in NL. We had 4 guys in our 2 bed apartment double wrapping everything (even the toiletbrush!) and had special crates made for our large painting and antique mirrors. The foreman numbered and listed each box as it was sealed. We also had to complete an inventory with values of everything for insurance. They completed the packing in a day and the next day, packed it in a van to transfer to the 40ft container on the main street. We had no breakages or losses on the other side and the nice thing is that they will come and take away the paper and boxes once you've unpacked - we wanted to take our time putting things away. They also organised an air shipment of our winter coats, bedding and Bromptons so that we had them when we arrived in NL as the container took about 6 weeks to arrive.
