Default Question about US citizen wanting to study in UK

Hi all.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place but I thought this would be the most sensible place to put this.

A while ago I posted a question about meeting my online boyfriend in the US. http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=794725

I'm glad to say everything went brilliantly and we had the time of our lives. Well now it turns out he wants to come to the UK to study.

He is apparently getting help and advice from his college who will be guiding him through the process but he also wants to come and visit me for Christmas as he has recently lost his mother unexpectedly and his family don't really celebrate Christmas like I do.

My question is will he be allowed to travel to the UK whilst applying for a student visa? This is all at very early stages right now but I just want to know whether be would be alowed entry whilst applying for a student visa.

Many thanks for reading

Apologies if the link doesn't work, I'm on my iphone right now and I'm having trouble getting the link to work.

As long as he has a return ticket, I don't see why he would have a problem. He would be entering as a temporary tourist/visitor, not a "potential student whose visa hasn't been procesed yet".
