Does anyone have experience of private landlords in the UK being more open to doing home improvements in a rented home? My daughter in NYC was not allowed to paint or remove some awful wallpaper in her appt. I was raised in a council house in Scotland and my parents were basically allowed to decorate as they liked but wondering about private lets. Thanks!

It will entirely depend on your tenancy agreement but a standard clause is that any decoration or alteration of the property must be agreed in writing with the landlord.
But most landlords I've rented from are fairly laid back about repainting and the like providing it's nothing too extreme.
