Quarantine

I have a cat that is at the mo 7months old, but am probably not gunna be able to get back to uk for another 4 months, which will bring her up to 1 yrs. Will she have to go into quarantine when she gets to uk? Shes coming over from New Zealand.
:(

I believe you can take her back under the pet travel scheme without quarantine, although I'm not sure you have enough time left to arrange this now. Otherwise, yes she will have to be quarantined. Best check the DEFRA website.

If you start the process now i.e rabies shot and then antibody blood test she will only need to do 2-3 months in quarantine - she will get early release as you would hve started the process while still overseas.

You'll need to get her chipped and the rabies shor first and then 3-4 weeks afer your vet can rake a sample of her blood.

Your kitty needs to have a Rabies vaccine and exactly 3 weeks after this vaccine she needs to have a blood test done. If the blood test is all ok your kitty can go back to the UK, but only after 6 months from the date of the Rabies vaccine. If you want her to travel before the 6 months is up then she will have to go into quarantine when she arrives in the UK, which can be expensive!

You need to get the ball rolling right away and you have to use a government approved vet to give the vaccine and get the blood test. Your cat will also have to be up to date with all her vaccines and be microchipped.

We shipped back our two cats and our dog, well worth it though!!!
:D

Hi

just bought our dog back from Aus. I believe its the same procedure re pet passport/rabies vaccine. She had her vaccine and 3 weeks later the blood test. The 6 month period starts from the blood test date, not the vaccine date ie 3 weeks after.

Hope this helps..good luck
