Please include giving up the smokes prior to assisting in the conception of a little 'un.

There is nothing whatsoever easy about quitting.

Anyone who tells you differently is lying to themselves. Join my non-smoking group online to read how people who are years into their quit still have cravings for the physical habit of smoking. Not for the drug, nicotine, but for the habit itself.

As of today I have 3 months and 2 weeks and 3 days into my last quit. So far so good. However, the craving for the act of smoking is still there and hits at the oddest times and it takes super willpower not to walk into any store and buy a pack. So I'm walking in those shoes and while augigi might have been wearing light weight sneakers on her quit path, I'm wearing leadlined boots.

BTW hubby is on year 9 of his quit and to this day, he still craves a cig every once in a while.
I am on the offspring of a mother who smoked through her pregnancy and my childhood health issues (ezcema, asthma and hayfever) were/are enough to prevent me from ever smoking (plus I've smoked enough passively, thank you). I'd rather not have any child of mine have to go to specialist doctors and hospitals for appointments/treatment as a result of being exposed to nicotine.

It's true to say that an adult can make an informed choice about whether to smoke but does an adult have the right to choose whether a fetus (a soon-to -be person) is exposed to nicotine and the very real risks of the health issues related to cigarettes?

I do not forgive my Mum for smoking during both her pregnancies and both my brother and I do not smoke. If she wants to kill herself slowly due to nicotine addiction, that's fine. It's her choice but I will not contribute to it. i.e. I have steadfastly refused to buy her duty-free cigarettes.

The answer is simple -- get rid of the insurance companies. There's absolutely no reason for them to be there. If they provided efficiency and quality to the system, I'd gladly live with them. They clearly don't.

How callous you are. I do hope that if you have done something that is later shown to be a health risk to your child[ren] or to others, that they forgive you of your ignorance.

I'm not a Native American but as an natural born American I would not like to have you include me in that ridiculous statement.

Most natural born Americans DO know there is a healthcare problem. A very serious one. They are not reluctant for change and most would vote in a heart beat for a national healthcare system that includes all people of the US.

However, unlike NCP, I forgive you your ignorance

I read what you write about health care and come to a different conclusion.

Really? I like my healthcare plan. It is cost effective and efficient for me and my spouse. I have good hospitals, good doctors, no referrals, top healthcare facilities and testing available at will.

However, I am not the majority of Americans who have this luxury and I will not have it much longer and was aware of that many decades ago. I will be without healthcare and without prescription coverage and will be SOL since I will not qualify for medicare or medicaid.

I have never implied that I would not want national healthcare in the US. I object to the term Universal healthcare because I do not think the US is the universe nor that we should provide healthcare to the entire earth's population.

I do believe that the poor people of the US have medicaid and have resources available to them that the majority of middle class people do not have because they have inadequate healthcare insurance and/or none at all. I never implied differently.

You don't care for me nor do you accord me respect for thinking differently from you. That is alright. I understand it is hard to accept differences when you are old and set in your ways
