Re: Postcards from England
Stepping back in time any further than the mid to late 19th century and all you would find on the shoreline between the Great Orme and the Little Orme headlands of what is now Llandudno would be a small cluster of fishermen's cottages and a rickety old wooden wharf and jetty.
A certain Lord Mostyn arrived on the scene, decided that it was an ideal place for what was called in Victorian days "a watering hole" and the area underwent a massive Victorian transformation as a seaside resort. Very few if any modern day buildings in Llandudno date back further than the 1850s.
And it comes as no surprise that the main shopping street in Llandudno is called Mostyn Street.
Llandudno also has its own "micro climate" - being in the immediate rainshadow of the Snowdon mountain range of North Wales with its prevailing south westerly winds it is comparative dry and sunny, certainly by Welsh standards generally. Maybe that's why Lord Mostyn chose it as a site for his dream seaside resort.

Re: Postcards from England
Thank you Karim, what a joy, I just found your thread and read from start to finish on this lazy Sunday morning. We hear such utter tosh everyday how the UK is just one big overcrowded concrete jungle with no elbow room to breathe.
You have captured so much of what there is to love about GB, the history, the architecture, the gardens and flowers. Not least of all a sense of pride and preservation of the old stuff. Just lovely!
