Positive outcomes from moving back to the UK
Just wondering if people have any positive little points about what happened after they returned to the UK after living abroad. I know there's a balance between good and bad of most places. But im just looking for a little inspiration/positive news about what happened when you returned to UK soil.
I have been in canada almost 6 years (applied for citizenship as soon as was possible) had a baby here and have never fully settled. (Partner is British too)
-was it harder than you thought to sort everything?
-did anything happen for the better?
-do you wish you had made the move back to the UK sooner?
-did you get a decent job back home and didnt need to worry after all?
-was the financial changes not as bad as you expected?
Thanks :-)

Re: Positive outcomes from moving back to the UK
We moved to NZ in 2004 and back to the UK in 2017 ..
Financially we were really lucky with both moves (exchange rates and house prices)
It did seem more complicated moving back but that could have been because when going to NZ it was an adventure and moving back we were older and wiser.
We're glad we went to NZ but when we moved back it instantly felt like home!

Hi Brit36
Have a look at the “Back in Scotland” thread started by Caroline in Arizona.
Her account is pretty detailed and very uplifting.

Back in Scotland
Our experience of moving back after 29 years living in the USA was also a very positive and uplifting experience, but it is going to be a very individual experience. We retired in 2010 and spent a few years traveling before deciding to set up a summer home in England where we had been most happy. We had done a trial run in 2011, renting a house for 6 months and we loved it, so in May 2016 we did the same thing in the same town but after just 6 weeks we both came to the conclusion that we absolutely loved it here so we started looking to buy our "forever house". Close to a bus route for when driving becomes impossible, bedroom and bathroom downstairs, within a half mile of the town centre etc. We had an offer accepted before we returned to Texas as scheduled in November and then spent a couple of months selling up. We flew into Manchester airport towards the end of January and while boarding the train home we got the phone call that the house purchase was complete and we could pick up the keys which did as soon as we got back that day.
Since then it has been absolutely marvelous, we love being home, hooking up with old friends and making new ones in the town, plus seeing and spending lots of time with our siblings and their families. We did feel a little guilty about leaving our 2 adult children, one in Texas, one in California, but a year after we were back our son moved here and lives a 10 minute walk away. A much bigger change for him as he was only just 5 years old when we moved to the USA, but he settled straight in immediately, got a job within 6 weeks, bought a house and moved in within 3 months.

Sorry, forgot to do the “quote” thing. That last remark was directed at Durham Lad!
