Pet Fees Payable on Arrival in UK
 

Somehow out of all the pet threads I never found the answer to this one.

How much is due "when you land in the UK" for each pet?

I don't know the amount and I don't know if it is calculated by the pet's weight or if it is a set standard fee per dog or cat.

call the airline that you will be travelling with and they will give you the current fees. I think they quoted me 240gbp but that was last year so they may have changed. I believe it is by the animal not by the weight.

Ask your airline if the fee is included in the pet's ticket cost. We flew BA and it was included; we paid nothing on arrival.

If you do have to pay the fee directly, around £200-£300 sounds about right. AFAIK it's a flat fee for pets, regardless of weight. If you're transporting several pets, you pay full whack for one and a reduced fee for the others.

If you are landing at Heathrow, James Cargo is the company that deals with the landing and its associated costs.

As mentioned, the cost is not dependent on animal size and some airlines (e.g., BA) include the landing costs in the ticket while others (e.g., Virgin) do not, so you have to pay separately.

Thanks, Dunroving. I'd much rather pay it all when I buy the ticket. I must ask about this when I book the tickets. Don't want any huge surprises at the other end.

Destination is Edinburgh and I read somewhere that the Animal Reception people are Extrordinair so I probably need to phone them.

Thanks so much. I think if I budget $2000 to pay for the landing fees for the pets, I should be okay. That's in addition to their airfares and vet prep/health certificate fees - for all four of the little darlings! :D

It costs a small fortune to move! Yikes!! ;)

If you fly by a carrier that doesn't include it in the cost of the ticket you will need to ask them when you book and they will tell you the exact amount. It is in GBP and you can't pay by credit card either so you will need to have the cash when you land from what Virgin told me. Not sure how many animals taking but call the airline just to get a clearer idea. I called Virgin and BA just to check out procedure etc without having to book. Virgin was very helpful and told me everything i needed to know. Will be booking with them when we are ready to go.

Yes, that's great advice. I will certainly have the cash in my pocket plus extra for unexpected expenses.

I think moving back is one of the most stressful things I have EVER done in my life! lol

What?? Surely any decent-sized business takes credit cards these days. What do they do if someone doesn't have cash - send them to the nearest bank?

All landing fees were included in the price I paid for flying them BA into Heathrow. Will yours be landing in Heathrow and then transported up to Edinburgh or will they fly directly into Scotland?

Either way, the best thing is to contact the airline with whom they're flying and they'll be able to tell you everything you need to know.

I've got something interesting to share. We flew our cats into Edinburgh, with United Airlines. United told me we would have to pay $371/cat as a broker fee, as the fee was not included in the price of the flight. However, upon arrival, we got lucky, or United was wrong, or Extrordinaire had a brain fart and forgot..I don't know, but we were not asked to pay any kind of broker fee, and thus far have not been sent an invoice either. This was about 5weeks ago. Its definitely worth a call to Extrordinaire to verify if they do charge a fee upon arrival.

Just what I was told when I inquired. they made a big deal about it being GBP so I should plan to have the cash amount in GBP with me.

And that figure ($371) is a lot higher than what others have quoted, too. I wonder if it varies from airport to airport.

I was quoted:" Arrival Fees on Landing in Heathrow are payable at the time of departure. These will total approximately 455 pound and not included in the price estimates above. The final figure is supplies at time of booking by the airline. These fees have to be paid by credit card or Internet banking prior to pets arrival." This was using Air NZ
